Is Your Photographer a Specialist?
What's the difference between wedding photography and other photography?
If you are looking for great wedding photography, make sure that the photographer has plenty of wedding photography samples on their website. Don't be their first test subject so they can build a portfolio. If they specialize in senior pictures or corporate photography, they may not know the flow of a wedding ceremony and might not be in the right place at the right time to capture the kiss.
Also, make sure that they are engaging and fun to work with. Quiet wedding photographers that don't get you to laugh and enjoy yourself during the shoot (especially for formal portraits) can create awkward situations that lead to less genuine pictures. With fake expressions, there's no feeling, and it's much harder to relive the emotions and happiness of the day when you look at them later.
Remember that veteran photographers who've been shooting for years might have built up such a large client base of non-wedding clients that charging less than $4,000 for a wedding client is not worth their time. So just because prices are high doesn't mean the final photographs will be what you hope for.
